My wife Betsy and I moved to Northampton from Brooklyn in 2008 so that I could pursue a doctorate at UMass Amherst. We fell in love with Northampton and it has been our home ever since. We’ve lived in Ward 4 for the past fifteen years, raising our 11 year old twins on Columbus Ave and walking our rescue dog Archie around the neighborhood. I have worked in progressive fundraising roles for non-profits and academic institutions for over twenty years, including WGBH, PBS, UMass Amherst, Baystate Health Foundation, and currently serve as the Director of Foundation Relations at Amherst College. In this role I am responsible for private, state, and federal funding proposals for the humanities, social sciences, museums, archives, and press of the college.
I studied Philosophy and Political Science as an undergrad before pursuing graduate work in Political Science at the New School for Social Research and UMass Amherst, where I earned a PhD. I continue to teach Political Theory courses at UMass, and research and publish academic papers. Teaching is one of the most rewarding responsibilities I have and I enjoy stimulating the curiosity and intellectual growth of my students.
I am the proud son of a public educator who taught kindergarten in Brockton, MA for thirty-five years. Over the past two terms, my service as the Ward 4 representative on the School Committee has been inspired by their commitment to vulnerable children and the universal values of public education.
