Solidarity. Kindness. Accountability. Transparency. Communication. Justice.
My politics are unambiguously Left. I believe in defending and expanding public services, centering the needs of the most vulnerable, and exposing and overcoming systems of oppression and domination. As a Political Theorist who specializes in critical theory, this latter point is central to my research, teaching, and ethics. Interrupting systemic forms of oppression, classism, and racism are values that I embrace as an elected official. I reflexively choose to vote and advocate for policies and decisions that reflect my values.
Central to my politics is the concept of solidarity. For me it's not just about my kids, it's about all of our kids and particularly those who do not have the privilege or resources that my kids benefit from. It is about fighting for people you don't even know, who have experiences different from yours. It is about recognizing that not every family has the same experience of the district and understanding and seeking to improve the systemic elements underlying NPS. I have stood up for, and will continue to stand up for, students, caregivers, and staff in our district to improve things, because it was and is the right thing to do, and because I have the skills to do so. I have been, and will continue to be, a voice for the voiceless and fight for people who can’t fight for themselves.
